5 Rock-Solid Reasons You Need a Website for Business
How many times have you searched for a business only to find out they don’t have a website? WTH? And if people can’t find you, they go elsewhere — Instantly. You need a website for business, plain and simple! Having a website for business means you take yourself seriously when it comes to your online presence. And having a presence online can make all the difference when it comes to generating revenue — whether service based or selling products. The Importance of a Good Website for Business Technology isn’t just sitting around waiting for you to catch up. It’s us that has to keep up with technology and what consumers expect. And consumers expect a website. Plain and simple. The internet gives you the opportunity to connect with millions of people around the world. I mean, seriously, let that sink in for a while. Millions of people can read your stories, buy your products, hire your services, and start trusting you as a business owner and/or service provider. All while never meeting you or stepping a foot into your business. So no matter what you are planning to do online — you need a website. You need your main piece of marketing to come alive and say “Here I am”. Reasons You Need a Website for Your Business I briefly touched on this above, but now let’s cover more reasons you need a website for your business. Credibility Along with technology advancing, the lack of trust in your fellow human being and businesses has increased also. People don’t trust or have faith in people and businesses like they use to. Everything nowadays is googled and researched. People base their decisions on what they read online, or perhaps word of mouth if they trust their source. You want people to think your business is credible and when you build a website and promote it through articles, newsletters, and social media, people will start to take notice. But it doesn’t happen over night — consistency and persistence is the key. You Want to Look Professional Do you want your business taken seriously? Do you want people to know that you’re a business person who knows what they are doing? People actually expect businesses to have a website and if that’s not happening then they are thinking: Why don’t they have a website? Is this a business or not? Seriously, in today’s age of the internet, they don’t have a website, what’s up with that? So do yourself a favor and build a website or have one done for you. Google, Google and More Google Earlier I mentioned how everything nowadays is googled and researched. Well with that being said, it should be obvious that you want to be found on google. What better form of FREE advertising can you ask for? Just think about how you go about finding a business or something you want to buy online. Something that you’ve never bought before and you are trying to figure out what you need. I would hazard a guess that you google it. Just saying. It’s a Big Marketing Platform Think of your website, or potential website, as a big marketing platform. For example, you post something on social media to send people to your website, or you write an article and promote the article, which, in turn, sends people to your website. Every type of promotion you do for your business sends people to YOUR WEBSITE. And what’s on your website? Your products Your courses Your affiliate marketing products Your digital products Your downloads You get the point. Even if you’re small and just want to stay in your local community, your potential clients/customers will want to check you out. You Learn What Your Clients/Customers Want And how important is that? Your business is there for your customers so doesn’t it make sense to not only be there for them, but also listen to them? Through your website you can ask questions to your customers to find out what they are looking for, wanting answers to, or whatever it is you do — and LISTEN to what they are saying. Going above and beyond for your customer makes for a very loyal customer indeed. They are the ones that are going to make your business successful. And after all, isn’t that the point? How to Start an Online Business (Even While Working Full-Time)
I know, you’re probably thinking to yourself “how the hell can I start an online business while working full-time — all while taking care of my house, cooking, grocery shopping, doing laundry, and trying to keep my head above water”. Yes, it’s not a simple task. BUT Now start thinking about having extra money, maybe being able to quit your job, hire a cleaner, being debt free, and taking vacations. So let’s go over a few things to help you get a grasp on how to start an online business — what this would entail — and then you can hash it over. Can I Start an Online Business While Employed? There shouldn’t be anything legally that prevents you from starting a business while employed. However, if you have some type of work contract, you may want to go over it just to make sure you aren’t stepping on anyone’s toes. Get Your Mental Ducks in a Row To me the beginning part of setting up a business while working full-time is all mental. In other words, you really need to do a lot of thinking before you even begin. Things like: You have to know WHY you are doing this. And this is so important because your WHY is going to keep you going when things aren’t going like you want, or if you are thinking about giving up. And write it down and keep it where you can see it. No BS here, this really does work. How serious are you about pursuing this and willing to learn what you have to know in order to get your side business up and running. What kind of side job/business would you even consider doing? What things are you interested in and love doing, or talking about? Where would you start if you don’t know what you are doing? Your mindset is going to play a HUGE part in all of this. Prioritize Your Time When I first started looking into a side business I just kept thinking, where the heck am I going to find free time to actually sit down and focus on building a business. But I just kept thinking about getting older and not wanting to be a financial burden on my boys. So while I was sitting waiting for my doctor I made a list of things I can cut from my schedule in order to make time for my side business. (there’s an example of making use of free time) When you prioritize you time, and stick to it, you are actually going to feel less stress than just “winging it”. The first thing you need to do is figure out WHEN you can work on your business. For example, I get up every morning at 3:30 and that’s when I write. It’s amazing how thoughts and words just pop into my head that early. I love writing when I first get up. But that’s me. You have to do what feels right for you. Working out a balance is tough at the beginning but once you establish a routine, your time issues won’t hit as many bumps in the road. Sure, life is going to get in the way, but then it’s easy to get back on track once you have a routine set up. In order to prioritize your time properly, you have to also figure out what you are willing to give up — time with family and friends, TV time, date night — because time is going to be your biggest asset while starting a business. So figure out a schedule and REALLY try to stick with it because it will save you from pulling out your hair. Once again, it’s all going to depend on how important starting this business is to you, which is going to determine what you are willing to give up —temporarily — in order to achieve what you want. Planning your work routine is a big step for prioritizing your time. First you figure out when you always have free time, like weekends and evenings. Write in some time for your business during those hours. During your lunch break you could always do some tasks that are simple and allows you to switch quickly back to your job mode. For example, you could do some research, or some to-do lists, or simple outlines on things you are going to write about, or things you want to learn. And once you establish your routine, you will see consistency and productiveness in your business, and that’s a real motivator. Set Realistic Goals – And WRITE Them Down! This sounds like a simple task, but personally, I found this a little overwhelming at first. I mean, you’re planning out your future on a piece of paper. It just seemed daunting to me. So I just never did it — for anything — I never set a goal! And then when you start researching and learning about starting a business, any kind of business, or even life in general, everything states WRITE down your goals. Goal setting is pretty much all over the freaking place. Yet I never wrote down a single goal. Until Now. And so far I’m staying on coarse. So why now? Why am I all of a sudden writing down my goals? Because this is for real. Because I don’t want to be a financial burden to my boys when I’m older. Because I don’t want to continue going to a job when I’m 70 or older. Because I don’t want to stress about something breaking down (car, new roof) and how will I pay for it. Because I want to be able to do things that people do when they are no longer going to their job. I want to do a Viking River Cruise. I want to visit my boys in Oregon more than once a year. I want to visit my family

Ms. Manning has a community of over 500,000 women and it just keeps growing. She covers health issues, travel, beauty, aging, money, mindset, dating, and just life in general. Ms. Manning doesn’t reveal her monthly income, but I would hazard a guess that it is quite substantial due to the fact she has over 500,000 followers. Writing Bonnie Nicholls, Hear Ye Writing – Ms. Nicholls was laid off from her corporate job at the age of 50. Ms. Nicholls states that age discrimination is a very real problem for anyone over 45. And according to AARP, 76% of respondents said ageism affects their ability to find full-time employment. As a freelance writer, Ms. Nicholls says her clients only care about whether she gets the job done. Because her writing business is online, she gets to spend the day at the beach if she likes, or she’ll take off and go camping (with her laptop of course). Travel Leyla Giray Alyanak, Women on the Road – In her mid-forties Leyla was dissatisfied with pretty much everything going on in her life — job, relationship, and had a severe case of wanderlust. So she did what she thought best — just took off to see the world. Leyla is still traveling, but now she helps women with the ins and outs of solo travel, all done online. Leyla shows women: How to Plan a trip How to stay safe What to take on your travels How to budget your trip How to avoid getting lonely Leyla started her blog in 2006 and is still going strong. Fitness Debra Atkinson, Flipping Fifty – Ms. Atkinson is a fitness expert over 50 who helps women in menopause and beyond get the energy and the vitality they want, need, and deserve in their later years. Today she runs the first and only, exclusively dedicated to women in menopause fitness club “The Flipping Virtual Gym Membership”. Not only is Ms. Atkinson a busy entrepreneur with her online business, but she also is a speaker and life coach, encouraging women to stay active and understanding exactly what menopause does to our bodies. Dane Findley, Over Fifty and Fit – I wanted to add Mr. Findley because he is a health advocate and developed his site to provide wise workouts, lifestyle tips and diet strategies to men and women who are middle aged and beyond. Mr. Findley wants to inspire adults to improve their mental and physical conditioning. Mr. Findley goes on to explain how he keeps his body the healthiest it has ever been. And he started his online business (you can sign up for his fitness course) because of his desire to help older people stay in shape, which is his passion. Pets Frankie Locallo, Puppy Love – Ms. Locallo’s love of dogs made her think outside the box to find a way to share her passion. And she found it in Puppy Love. Ms. Locallo started her business by providing puppies at children’s birthday parties so the kids could play with the puppies. Now her business has expanded and includes adult events and also video taping the interaction for later viewing. She even had to hire staff as her business has grown. Ms. Locallo does not have a website for her business as she keeps it local and it has grown just by word of mouth. And it all started because of her love of dogs. Carol Gardner, Zelda Wisdom, Inc. – At the age of 52 Carol Gardner’s husband divorced her and she got hit with a huge amount of debt. Her attorney told her to find a therapist or get a dog. She chose the dog. Ms. Gardner entered Zelda, her sad-faced bulldog, in a greeting card contest and won. Zelda quickly became a greeting card sensation and eventually a licensing empire. The Zelda Wisdom product line has made Ms. Gardner a very comfortable millionaire. And it all started because her attorney suggested either a therapist or a dog. Crafts Mark Nelson, Way West Saddlery – When Mr. Nelson retired at the age of 60 he spent most of his time hunting, fishing, and messing with his horses. After about a year of doing this he realized that he needed to do something productive. He said play time was over. After an accident limited his working options, he thought about how much he always loved working with leather as a kid, and that’s when he decided to start making saddles. He invested money for a course in Montana where he spent six weeks learning how to make saddles. The saddles that Mr. Nelson makes now run around $2,000 each and they are made like the old western saddles of the 19th century. And it all started because he received a saddle making kit at the age of 13. Baking Franny Martin, Cookies On Call – Franny spent much of her childhood in the kitchen alongside her grandmother. When she got older her career choice was in marketing and at one point she was the national director of marketing and public relations for Domino’s Pizza. But
Freaking Out About Not Enough Retirement Savings – What Can You Do?
If you are freaking out about not having enough retirement savings, you are not alone. For the majority of people, especially women, retirement is not all sandy beaches and lying around all day. When it comes to women, one in five working women have nothing saved for retirement. Yes, you read that right, NOTHING! Your Fear of Running Out of Money in Retirement Is Almost Normal According to NBC News, 60% of us fear running out of money when we retire. That’s a higher percentage of people’s fear of dying. And some retirees are even afraid to spend money in retirement. Isn’t this supposed to be enjoyment time? But not everyone is offered a pension or 401(k), and not having a retirement plan can really put a lot of stress on you. With people living longer, living paycheck to paycheck, and higher costs on pretty much everything, it makes retiring more difficult. How Many Retiree’s Run Out of Money Research from the Employee Benefit Research Institute states “There’s a pretty good chance many Americans will run short of cash after retirement.” They go on to say that 40.6% of U.S. households between the ages 35 to 64 are projected to run short of money during retirement. The Employee Benefit Research Institute’s data shows Americans are very ill prepared for a secure retirement. They state that individuals need to make sure they are prioritizing their retirement savings and finding ways to put cash aside for their retirement. However, you will not be totally broke — you will always have your Social Security benefits (for however long that lasts). But is that enough to keep up with all of your expenses? And do you want to be stressing out every month about being able to pay for the things you need? Know How Much You Need to Save The National Institute on Retirement states 75% of Americans fall short when it comes to retirement savings. So how much to you need? According to Fidelity, you should be saving 15% of your pre-tax salary. But for many of us, that’s just not possible. Breaking down an exact amount is hard to do because so many factors have to be taken into account — how much will you spend, how long will you live, unexpected expenses for your home, car, medical. But for a simple example, according to AARP, if your annual pre-retirement expenses are $50,000, then you would want a retirement income of $40,000 annually. So if you and your spouse collect $2,000 a month from Social Security, which is $24,000 per year, you would need $16,000 a year from your savings. This doesn’t include any extra spending — things like travel or those unexpected expenses. How Can You Accelerate Your Retirement Savings? Most of the advice I find on increasing your retirement savings suggest: Grab the 401(k) match Open an IRA Automate your savings Rein in spending Stash extra funds Retire in the right state Downsize your home Pay off debt Well all of those are fine and dandy if any of those choices are available to you. They sure as hell aren’t available for me! Then there is the choice of a second job, or a side job online. And that’s what a lot of older people are choosing. They are finding a side job to stash away money for retirement. Some even continue their side business after retiring, while others are already retired and that’s when they get into a side business. I currently work 40+ hours a week so the last thing I wanted to do is go from one job to another. No thank you. However, working online doesn’t feel like another job for me. This is something that is so enjoyable I don’t even feel like I’m working. I spend time online anyway, so why not make the internet work for me and bring in some extra cash. Yes, it was a big step and also very overwhelming (it still is) but I figure “hey what the heck, if they can do it, so can I” and I am very determined. The older generation is really starting to make their mark online. They are doing what they want and they are doing it to meet their needs and desires. So Stop Freaking Out and Start Doing Why take the chance of being ill-prepared for your retirement. Start a back-up plan right now by finding a side job or starting an online business. This way your retirement may just start looking like sandy beaches and lying around all day. And remember, an online business can go anywhere you go, just pack up your laptop and head on out. Have a wonderful day! Share on FacebookTweetFollow usSave
Older Women with Online Businesses – Do They Really Make Money?
Ok, so you know you want to make some money on the side for retirement, but you aren’t quite sure what you want to do. Or even sure whether it will be another job where they dictate your pay, or your own business where you dictate your pay. And yes, your own business can be scary, but YOU’RE THE BOSS! You call the shots. Do you have it in you? There’s a lot of older women with online businesses that are making money, and some of them are making A LOT of money. So let’s take a look at how some of these women came up with their successful online businesses. Successful Female Entrepreneurs Over 50 Anita Mahaffey – Cool Jams Talk about thinking outside the box — Ms. Mahaffey was so sick and tired of hot flashes while she slept that she actually started a business called Cool-jams, Inc.Her business sells moisture-wicking pajamas, bedsheets and more. Ms. Mahaffey was 61 when she started Cool-jams. She said she sees herself leaving the company one day so she can enjoy retirement, but she’s not ready yet — there’s more she wants to do. Jodie Davis – The American Cuckoo Clock Company Her love of cuckoo clocks lead her to start The American Cuckoo Clock Company – and she knew absolutely nothing about the making of cuckoo clocks. Ms. Davis was in her mid 50’s when she started her business. She recently finished a clock commissioned for Sesame Street and has another big project in the works, not to mention what she sells through her site. According to Ms. Davis “Cuckoo clocks become family heirlooms, we see our mission as creating charming cuckoo clocks that will spread smiles and create memories for generations to come.” And Ms. Davis plans on becoming one of the biggest cuckoo clock makers in the nation. Leslie Polizzotto – The Doughnut Project Ms. Polizzotto was a practicing attorney in Los Angeles and gave that up to open a doughnut shop in New York City called The Doughnut Project. All because of a conversation she had with a bartender while visiting New York City — and the bartender actually became her partner. Now The Doughnut Project has two locations, 24 employees and over $500,000 in annual revenue — all because of a random conversation. Angie Higa – Sky Dreams Ms. Higa retired early after 30 years in the banking industry to take care of her granddaughter when her eldest daughter was deployed to Afghanistan. What lead Ms. Higa to her business idea was catching a cold on a seven hour flight that provided no blankets, nor were there any available. And Sky Dreams was launched (a year after she retired) as a manufacturing company specializing in, yup, you guessed it, travel blankets and matching comfort pillows. Mary Rawles – Fit For The Rest of Your Life Ms. Rawles retired in her 60s from her school teaching position. But when she was in her 50s she transformed her health due to all of the weight she had put on. Then when the pandemic hit, at age 73, she launched her first business — an online workout class and weight loss support business. Ms. Rawles loves to share the joy of transforming oneself, no matter the age. Business Ideas for Women Over 50 The women mentioned above took their off the wall ideas and created a business that they love. Businesses that make them feel joy and also confident about their future. Angel Cornelius, who started her business at age 60, https://maison276.com, initially as a side job while still working full-time, states “We older women are really tough, extremely competent and definitely innovative because there’s so much we want to see in the world that doesn’t exist.” Here are some suggestions for a side job: Consultant – this could be connected with an industry you are familiar with. Pet Sitting – Take your love of animals to the next level Crafts – If you love knitting, crochet, making quilts, making ornaments, or whatever craft you love to do, you can sell online or even teach like minded people what you know. Financial – Good with budgets, or perhaps you work as a financial advisor. Teaching people how to stay on track with their money is a very lucrative business. Bookkeeper – Experience with accounting and your love of numbers is definitely an area that you can start on the side. A lot of companies outsource this type of work. Graphic Designer – With the amount of websites that are popping up online daily – with some experience in graphic design you can start advertising (for free) for side jobs on sites that connect you with potential clients. Content Writing – Creating content for businesses can be very profitable if you love writing. Once again, with all of the websites out there, you can surely find sites that you would love to write for, and if not, start your own website and write what you are passionate about. Party Planner – Do you enjoy organizing and planning? Ever think about planning parties for people or organizations, like holiday parties, graduations, fund raisers, or even birthday parties. Travel Coordinator for the “Over 50 Crowd” – Your love of travel and being able to plan out trips could have you starting your own booking agency for group trips over the age of 50. Music Teacher – This could be done either in person or over the internet (thank you Zoom) Keep Your Eyes and Ears Open There are so many different avenues we can go nowadays because of the internet. Start paying attention to conversations people have about things they need, or wish they could find, or wish they knew someone who did a certain thing, or people you want to help. Keep a notebook with you and write things down as they come to you or that you see and hear. Things that you think “Wow, that’s a
